Leadership For Learning That Matters At Wilderness School (K-12), the question of what is worth learning is at the forefront of our thinking. In order to fulfil our mission to enable each girl to be the best she can be throughout her life, we believe we need to maximise our students’ academic and personal growth and prepare them for their futures, through nurturing their capacities to thrive in our rapidly changing complex world. To this end, our learning framework is designed to deliver ‘life worthy learning’ to our girls. By this, we mean learning that is ‘likely to matter in the lives learners are likely to have’ (Perkins, 2014, p. 8). Using a leadership lens, this session will explore our school’s journey. It includes the development of a learning that matters framework, involvement of leadership, provision of resources, modes of delivery, mechanisms to monitor progress and obtain feedback, and evidence of its positive impact. Participants will engage in and experience our school’s journey through active involvement in strategies for activating groups, as well as thinking routines and protocols for information processing, generating ideas and sharing ideas (Lipton & Wellman, 2016). Participants will be challenged to consider and invited to share how they are working to develop and deliver learning that matters in their own contexts. REFERENCE LIST: Claxton, G. (2008).
