AUDIENCE Teachers interested in teaching their students how to improve their memory and encourage the growth mindset culture and buy-in. I’m estimating this memory model can be taught to younger students from grades 5 and up – maybe younger. Objectives (What will teachers be able to do as a result of this PD?): Participants will: 1) learn a memory model that they can in turn teach to their students and the participants will also 2) learn additional practical neuroscience strategies for improving recall, and 3) they will learn ways to foster and integrate a supporting Growth Mindset to support memory formation. Learning Outcomes (How will this impact student achievement?): By improving student memory and recall skills and increasing their overall awareness about how their brain forms memory, students will more likely embrace a growth mindset. Their better understanding about how they can self-improve their memory formation and transfer these skills to acquire knowledge and content related skills in and outside of the classroom in general will improve student achievement.

Title: Use the Growth Mindset to Build Students’ Memory and Strengthen Recall Presenter: Dana Schreiber Teacher 09.14.2017 Summary Many of our students struggle with information recall. We can teach them about how their brain builds memory and effective ways to learn and recall information. Their confidence from accurate recall lays the foundation for more engagement, higher-order thinking, synthesis, and persistence to tackle academic and life’s challenges. Our brain is also our neuro-emotional center. We can help our students persist through this learning rollercoaster of hope, grit, and growth by teaching them how to harness the power of a growth mindset and emotional intelligence. Participants will learn a memory model that explains how our brain builds long-term memory - which they can teach to their students. We will also look at practical neuroscience strategies that strengthen recall, and explore how a growth mindset nurtures long-term memory.
